NaNoWriMo – Day Three

Today turned out to be crazy busy. I got a call for the band to play a gig tonight. Since we don’t turn down money too often, we’re playing it.

However, that really threw a wrench in the gears for writing today. But I refuse to give myself a day off. I gave myself one hour to eat dinner and write. Turns out I can get a ton accomplished in one hour.

Words before: 13,038

Words today: 1,022

Total word count: 14,060

I have no picture for inspiration because I just hammered out what I could. But I did listen to some thrash metal to help speed the writing process up. I think I was typing at about 200bpm.

NaNoWriMo – Day Two

Given I want to do 1,500 words a day, I’m really kicking butt.

Words before: 9,632

Words today: 3,406

Total word count: 13,038

I’m just flying through this. Admittedly, I have had two days off, so I’m sure the next little bit my word count will be around the 1,500 range. But we’ll see!

Today’s picture inspiration was brought to you by the letter “G.”

And no. No one dies. This is a mood-setting picture.

NaNoWriMo – Day One

I’ve spent a little bit of time the past few days getting the story going so when today came I wouldn’t spend an hour going, “Uh, how do I start this thing?” I set myself up so I could just wake-up and get going on it. A few days ago, I wrote 3,744 words. Yesterday, in less than two hours, I pushed out another 1,549 words, leaving me with a running total of 5,293 words. My goal is to do ~1,500 words a day, so jamming out 1,549 in less than two hours is really inspiring for me.

But I am NOT counting the 5,293 words as part of the 50k challenge. That was just to get me started.

Then today happened:

I started my story today with 5,293 words.

Words added: 4,339

Total word count: 9,632

If you ask me, I’m off to an amazing start!

Let’s keep this ball rolling!

I had these three images for inspiration today:

NaNoWriMo – Am I Cheating?

I’m so eager to get started on my NaNoWriMo challenge that I’ve begun writing the story. I’ve already plotted out most of what I want to write about, but I felt as if to not stall on my first day – I should at least get it started.

Although there are no official rules for NaNoWriMo, I can’t help but wonder if this is considered cheating.

I’m glad I did however. I spent a good few hours on only 1000 words so I knew exactly how I was going to style and get the story started. From there, I brainstormed my characters and how they will interrelate with one another – as well as with my protagonist. I had an idea on how they were going to all tie together, but I’m glad I sat down and actually figured it all out. I just saved myself a ton of time.

It’s funny that when you think you’re ready to get started, there’s always the little fine details you may miss out on.

Lesson learned: Take time with this. Relax. Breathe. Keep a pen on hand, always.

And as for the unresolved question: Am I cheating?
