Thirty Day Challenge – Day Three – Reflections

Chaos!

Today was nuts! So much stuff happened at work – it threw me for loops! To top it all off, my body hurts in places I didn’t even knew existed!

It’s one of those days where I wish there was still at least six hours left in the day. Alas, at the time of writing now, there’s less than three left.

Due to the hectic stuff today, I didn’t write as much as I would have liked to, but I did get some editing done. But you know what? That’s fine by me, because this challenge isn’t about the number of words, but the time invested into the project. That’s more than enough to make me happy!

Reflections

I went with Apocalyptica’s album, “Reflections” because it’s damn pretty.

Until tomorrow, fellow readers!

Thirty Day Challenge – Day Two – And The Circus Leaves Town

I really didn’t think I was going to get any writing done today. I took me by surprise!

I came down with a cold this morning which I immediately beat into submission with some neo-citran-like-drink. Then I worked my butt off at work and my plans for the night got delayed for an hour. Now it’s near 9pm, I finished my writing, and I’m ready for bed.

But first! The story!

I still managed to write a heck of a lot! I even went back and did some grammatical changes I realized I goofed when originally writing the story. So yes, while I wrote tonight, I spent some time editing as well. To top it all off, I had to sit down and play a little bit of the “refresh” game with two of my characters back-stories.

While I DO know what they are, I did NOT remember how I presented it in the story early on, so I had to go back and pretty much copy and paste the variety of paragraphs and dialogue where it was explained into a separate folder on my computer for easy refreshing. While I’m sure there’s some computer program or writing program that could do that all for me, I enjoy the way I do it. It may not seem organized for most people, but that’s why you’re not me.

Circus Leaves Town

I couldn’t help but break out some Kyuss today, so I gave “…And The Circus Leaves Town” a solid listening to tonight.

Until tomorrow, fellow readers!

Thirty Day Challenge – Day One – Lightbulb Sun

Today kick-started my Thirty Day Challenge.

It was really interesting when comparing today to my previous writing challenges. With the other challenges, I forced myself to reach a word count. While I still think that’s a great idea, I found today to be a lot more relaxing. If today is a precursor to the rest of this challenge, I’m looking forward to it!

I spend a lot of time writing, but also found myself going back and building up more characterization. It’s funny. Even though I have the characters all planned and plotted out, when you start to write them things begin to change. It all seems quite natural to the particular character too. In a nutshell, I’ve added a few different traits and added to the history about the character. I’m quite satisfied with how he’ll turn out.

Another thing I dinked around with some bioethic ideologies. More specifically, Abolitionism. While I’m dealing in a science-fiction universe, like I’ve mentioned, this story also involves a lot about politics and religion.

While the idea of “Abolitionists” are to use technology to enhance humans themselves into better physical beings and end emotional suffering, I decided to take it a step further and throw both a spiritual and political spin on it all.

. . .

You’ll see what I mean when you read the book.

The most exciting thing about this challenge too, is since I’m not plugging away at a particular word count, I found I’m able to freely listen to music without getting too distracted. It’s a lot more freeing and exciting.

Lightbulb Sun

For today, I replayed Porcupine Tree’s “Lightbulb Sun” a few times.

Until tomorrow, fellow readers!

NaNoWriMo – Take Two!

How’s February 19th through to March 19th sound?

Good!

No, no, I’m not planning on doing another 50,000 words in that time. While I did accomplish a lot last month, I definitely want to take it a bit easier. As I get busier with my real-life job, I won’t have as much time to dedicate to this story as much as I want to. Instead, I’m aiming for around 20-25k words. If anything, this will be considered a half-ass attempt at NaNoWriMo.

I needed to take a bit of a break from the story because it is both physically and mentally taxing. I definitely didn’t want to jump into that exhaustive mindset again. I was thinking about another thirty-day challenge involving another project, but I really think I should focus on one for now.

I’ll also try to keep up on the site for more comic stuff. I won’t be posting daily updates like before, that’s for sure.

As for the story, I ended my last challenge with 54,126 words. Let’s aim to make it 70,000 or die trying!

Say Cheese

Keep on Space Truckin’!
