Thirty Day Challenge – Day Twenty-Four – In Your Room

Tons of writing and drawing was done today! Holy moly! I even surprised myself!

With a few side projects out of the way, and some drawing too, I also spent some time writing! Yowzers!

The story is moments away from the “tipping point” of action and excitement. What’s going to be really great is that when I hit it, the momentum will not stop until the story is over. It’s going to take a lot of preparations for myself mentally to take it on, so I’m actually considering holding off getting to that momentum until after the thirty day challenge.

I’m sure you’re screaming, “WHAT?!” right now.

I know, right? But I really need to take a breather from the story in order to get caught up with other things in my life right now. Spending most days working, only to come home and work (albeit, it can be ‘playing’ sometimes) can become pretty taxing. So what I’m proposing for myself is to get to that awesome “point” in the story, then focus the remainder of my challenge going back and fixing things I know need fixing. I’ll set up another thirty day challenge after my break and go from there.

This of course, doesn’t mean I’m going to stop writing until the next challenge. Heck no. I just won’t be forced to do it, and be a lot more relaxed when writing. It’s not my profession. Not yet. . .

In Your Room

Anneke van Giersbergen’s solo albums are real fun listens to. Her 2009 release, “In Your Room” has many little stories in each song. Each one could probably fit somewhere in your life with knowing someone who acts the way someone does in a song, or even with yourself. It’s a real joy to listen to. Easy listening as well.

Tomorrow, friends!

Thirty Day Challenge – Day Twenty-Three – A Dramatic Turn of Events

What an eventful day!

I performed twice today, danced a jig, got groceries, then came home and wrote. Somewhere in there I ate.

Once again, the story writing did not progress today as well as I had expected. I was left feeling pretty tired today. Unfortunately, my writing suffered for it. I got a little bit more written, but nothing too exciting to report, really. These past two posts certainly are the “blah” posts of the writing challenge. “Blah posts?” What am I even saying?

I do have the day off tomorrow. I only have a few errands to run, so hopefully I can get quite a bit of writing accomplished.

A Dramatic Turn of Events

I busted out the newest release of my favourite band, Dream Theater. Their 2011 album “A Dramatic Turn of Events” was pretty decent. It’s a pretty straight-forward record. If anything, I like listening to it for the production value, rather than the songs.

Now I’m going to write some other projects.

Until tomorrow!

Thirty Day Challenge – Day Twenty-Two – Surtur Rising

Today was something.

I hope everyone was safe on the roads today given the snow. I skidded around a few times on some black ice. It was grand. But not really. . .

As for writing, it was alright. I really wasn’t feeling in the mood to write tonight as I’ve been feeling exhausted. Funny enough how I planned for tonight to be my “writing” night because I was supposed to be busier on Friday. Alas!

The progress on the story really didn’t impress me too much. I played around in the current scene some more, but nothing really special came out of it. It’s tough to keep relevant things prevalent in the story so often. ‘Tis the writer’s life for me!

Surtur Rising

It wouldn’t be my first choice to listen to when writing, but because I still do not have my albums unpacked, I had to listen to Amon Amarth’s “Surtur Rising.”

I’m trying to vary the albums I play each day to at least keep some excitement going. I’m reaching the end of the barrel now though. I’ll have to go digging for more albums tonight.

Until tomorrow!

Thirty Day Challenge – Day Twenty-One – Scarsick

In case most of you haven’t heard: snow storm in Southern Ontario!

While I went to work this morning, I was let off in the afternoon as the weather continued to get worse. What a blessing!

I was able to finish unpacking everything in my new place, as well as focus a lot more time with writing. Even better, I’ve caught up on a few other things, making my stress levels plummet. Bonus!

Writing today was a lot of fun. I mean a LOT of fun. Knowing I’ll still have to go back and “fill out” the scenes with imagery and details on location, I for some reason, spent today doing so. As I mentioned yesterday, I went back and changed the scene I wrote. It wasn’t too bad.

I also came up with something clever for a name of something (I’m being purposefully vague). I have to talk it over with a pastor friend of mine to get it all sorted out/use his knowledge about the name. It’s just interesting, is all!

Scarsick

Today, I busted out Pain of Salvation’s concept album “Scarsick.” It’s a pretty emotional thrill ride, but also made for great back up music. I did find myself, however, zoning in and out from writing just so I could listen to some of the crafty lyrics and instrumentation.

Until tomorrow!
